What do you see when you look at this image?
Do you see a glass half full or a glass half empty? It’s a commonly used metaphor to describe whether you are an optimist or not.
For me, I see the glass as half empty, not in a negative way, but in a positive way. I see that half of the glass has been drunk, nourished me, kept me alert and healthy and is ready for a top up. I don’t metaphorically see my world as half empty or negative yet everyday I’m subjected to the myriad of social media in a world that at times seems obsessed with negative. You know the posts from friends who start off with “I’m so tired/ill/depressed/stressed/unhappy……” and you feel emotionally drained before you even bother reading on.
Don’t get me wrong, I have days like this too but I actively choose not to be negative, not to express my emotions in a depressive manner but to try to live and think positively about everything that happens in my life.
So here’s my challenge to you – for one week every time you begin a sentence/post on Facebook/Tweet stop and think about the impact that sends to the reader. Is it negative, does it warrant sharing, will it make somebody smile? Try to make it a positive statement, make a positive choice about your words and see how being positive can change your outlook. I promise you it really does change how you feel and gives you the emotional strength for whatever comes your way.
Remember, adventure is out there!
