I’m full of Chinese and a super healthy serving of Tony Stark.
Those that know me will probably say that this was always going to be a biased review and, it’s true, I have been sooooo looking forward to seeing this since the credits finally stopped rolling on Avengers Assemble, BUT I would also be the first to admit how lame it was, if indeed it was lame.
It wasn’t, it was fabulous.
Downey Jr. reprises the role of Iron Man in this, phase 2, of Marvels world domination takeover program. After the ‘New York’ incident, Tony Stark has been left somewhat shaken and prone to a panic attack or two. It’s not too far into the movie that Stark soon finds his world turned upside down and once again it’s up to him to save the world. This time though, he’s all on his own.
Shane Black, the writer/director (Lethal Weapon, The Long Kiss Goodnight, The Last Boy Scout) has done a brilliant job on showing us that beneath the armor it’s just a man. A wise cracking, fine looking man but, ultimately, just a man that bleeds when punched repeatedly and loves a good woman with all his heart.
Ben Kingsley and Guy Pearce supply the essential bad guy elements for this movie and each bring a lot to the table. Every time and, indeed, in every film that has Pearce in though, I cannot ever get Neighbours out of my head. He’ll always be Mike to me.
Don Cheadle suits up as the Iron Patriot and wears it well although I do feel he could have been given some meatier dialogue and more screen time but that’s just me being picky.
One thing I did find disappointing was the complete lack of any AC/DC type soundtrack. None whatsoever. What’s that about?
So, it’s totally worth a watch. Lots of action, never a dull moment, some positively laugh out loud quips and a sense of well being on departure. Take the family or go on your own but remember, one does simply not just leave at the end of a Marvel movie. One must stay until ALL of the credits have rolled. There’s always something waiting. Always.
Iron Man 3 was a great birthday present (thanks sisters!) and has answered the question that it is, most definitely, the man that maketh the suit and not the other way around. Watch the trailer HERE. Enjoy!!!
