Cupcakes are normally the ‘go to’ recipe of choice if the kids are bored and want to make something. Today, however, we have a new addition to the Ward repertoire.

Flapjacks.

I never actually realised how easy they are to make but, trust me, they are.

Fabulous Flapjacks

You will need:

  • 4 ½ oz/ 6 tbsp Golden Syrup
  • 2 sticks/200g unsalted butter
  • 12 oz/330g porridge oats
  • willing helpers and bowl lickers

Preparation:

Preheat the oven to 350°F/180°C/Gas 4

Gently melt the butter and then add the syrup. Stir well. At this point you can either add the oats to the pan or put the oats in a mixing bowl. The chief stirrer will then have to mix the melted mixture with the oaty goodness until the oats have soaked everything up.

We chose to do individual flapjack bites by putting a teaspoon of the mixture into a petit fours case. If you prefer you can butter a 9″x 13″/23cm x 33cm Swiss roll tin and line the base with baking parchment and then but it into squares once it has been baked.

Bake for 25 mins if using the tin method or 20 mins if using the cases.

Let them cool, then scoff!

Think big and reach for the stars,
