The warm weather is here and the inhabitants of the UK sprint to every store to rid it of meat and bun products, salad that nobody ever eats and bags of ice. Even though we all have a kitchen and dining table, there’s something just so perfect about being able to cook and eat outside isn’t there?  It doesn’t always have to be burgers and sausages though. The kids did want a burger but they also wanted something sweet too so, collectively, we raided the cupboards to see what we had (a theme I’ve noticed we do frequently in our family). The surprising end result didn’t look too pretty (you’ll see why in a minute) but it tasted delicious and all prepared and cooked by the munchkins. We don’t have a barbecue at home but thankfully HOME BARGAINS came to the rescue. They sent TMK some fab picnic goodies for us try out and that included a disposable barbecue, plates, tablecoth, utensils and slushie cups.BBQ Bananas

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Bananas

Marshmallows

Chocolate

Foil

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Peel a banana and place it on a rectangle of foil.

2. Slice down the middle and push in the chocolate and marshmallows.

3. Wrap the foil around the banana and put on the BBQ for approx 10 minutes.

4. Serve in the foil or empty into a bowl and add ice cream. Enjoy!

You can actually leave the banana in it’s skin and just slice the top but the kids wanted to peel them completely instead. It was their turn to cook so I had no say in the matter. Chef wins. Every time. BBQ Bananas

PERFECTING THE SLUSHIE

Whenever the kids see a Slushie machine they immediately want one. I, on the other hand, can’t stop thinking about Margaritas! So, I bought a cheap blender that promised to crush ice and went about creating some perfect recipes for hot summer days. The favourite, by a mile, turns out to be the Vimto one and it seriously couldn’t be simpler.

Fill the blender about 3/4 full of ice and then pour in the Vimto, or whichever squash you use, about a 1/3 of the way up the ice.

Turn on the blender for about 15 seconds then pour the mix into a plastic glass and you’re done! I used these reusable and sturdy ones with screw on tops, no spillages, no random insect floaters.

Try different drinks; fresh orange, Coke, Lemonade, apple juice for example.

SlushieEnjoy your time outdoor this summer and don’t forget to send us your images or links to any fab recipes we can try at TMK HQ.
